School Lockdown Alert: School in Manchester goes into Lockdown after man with bladed weapon seen on school grounds
Newall Green High School went into lockdown after pupils in canteen saw meat cleaver wielding man right outside window
Police hurried to the school premises at approximately 1.20 on Tuesday 7th January following reports of an armed man apparently making threats.
As pupils were kept in the canteen, video footage was taken of the suspect pacing up and down just outside the windows, swinging the bladed weapon up and down. The school was put on lockdown, with scared students kept inside as the incident was dealt with, and police apprehending the suspect after a brief chase.
A school spokesperson said “Staff took appropriate action to make sure children were safe”. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that no-one was injured.
Events such as these highlight why it is critically important to ensure your school has the ability to instantly broadcast a unique lockdown alert across your whole premises. If a fire alarm is used to indicate lockdown, there is a chance that this could be misinterpreted, risking pupils streaming out to external assembly points with an intruder on the grounds.
Bodet’s Lockdown Alert System can instantly broadcast a unique lockdown alert across your whole school, different to other emergency alerts such as fire and evacuation. This solution can either be standalone, or part of a larger system which also incorporates Class Change, providing a choice of programmable audio alerts which can be sent to customisable zones. It can also include PA functionality, streaming music and synchronised clocks.
